Immunity according to LiviaHeleen

We are happy to open another blog series from Lívia Heleen , in which once a month we will delve into topics related to natural cycles, health, and the subtle wisdom of the body.

The second contribution is a text dedicated to immunity – not as a biochemical process, but as a manifestation of the balance between the inner and outer world. In it, Lívia invites us to perceive immunity as a path to self-awareness, clear boundaries, and inner strength.

We believe that her words will resonate with you and inspire you to be more sensitive to yourself and your body.

Immunity

Immunity is not just a biochemical reaction. It is a manifestation of balance between the inner and outer world. Harmony between acceptance and letting go. Our defenses include not only the body's ability to resist external pathogens, but also the psychological and spiritual resistance, the resistance of our mind, and a kind of ability to consciously choose what we identify with, what we give our consent to, and what we do not.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, our defenses are governed by the Metal element, which includes the lungs and large intestine in our body. These symbolize the inhalation/acceptance of the new and the release/letting go of the old. The strong energy of Metal manifests itself as a strong ability to set boundaries. This forms the body's strong defenses. It is the energy of self-esteem and integrity. The ability to perceive one's own value, which is not acquired through achievement, but is our innate essence. If we have true respect for ourselves, we know what is nourishing for us and what is toxic, and accordingly we are able to confidently express our yes or no to life. And this on all levels of being.

If the Metal element is weakened in us, significant sadness and melancholy appear in the autumn period, and on the physical level, dryness of the skin or mucous membranes, eczema, frequent colds, respiratory tract sensitivity, chest tightness, or constipation.

We can cultivate the health of this aspect by building clarity and inner discipline, maintaining boundaries, and deepening our ability to let go. On the physical level, we can focus on deep and conscious breathing, warming up the body with warm and nutritious foods, and especially quality time spent in the fresh air in nature.
